Performance

Compared with phunnel bowls, the Turkish style gives a freer draw and snappier heat response. The dense clay warms evenly, keeping clouds steady and flavour clean when coals are managed on the rim.

Setup & tips

  • Use heavy-duty foil pulled tight; punch a dense, even pattern across the face.
  • Start with 2 × 26 mm coconut cubes on the rim; add a third if outdoors or if heat fades.
  • Pack level and airy for blonde-leaf; slightly denser for dark-leaf. Leave 1–2 mm clearance under the foil.
  • Most HMDs won’t seat ideally on this rim — foil gives the best consistency.

Moon bowls are produced in small batches in Russia. Artisan glazing means subtle variations in colour and pattern — that individuality is part of the appeal.

Maintenance

  • Let the bowl cool before rinsing; wash with warm water and a soft brush.
