What are Shisha Hoses?

The hose is the long flexible tube that carries smoke from the pipe to you. It's usually sold as three parts: the hose itself, the handle (the rigid grip at your end), and the mouthtip (the small part that touches your lips). Sometimes all three come as one unit.

Hose material matters most. Silicone is the modern standard — washes out easily under warm water, doesn't hold onto old flavours, so the next session tastes clean. Leather-wrapped and fabric hoses are the traditional look. They can't really be cleaned, so old flavours stay inside and eventually every session tastes like the last one.

Handles are usually aluminium, wood, acrylic, or carbon fibre. This part is mainly about how it feels in your hand — a good handle is comfortable and seals tightly against the hose.

Mouthtips come in two types. Disposable ones are wrapped individually and are what you use when friends are sharing — each person gets a fresh tip. Personal mouthtips (resin, wood, steel) are reusable, and regular enthusiasts keep them on a lanyard or in a bag.

Hoses, handles and mouthtips FAQs

What is the difference between a hose, a handle and a mouthtip?

The hose is the flexible tube that carries the draw from your pipe. The handle is the rigid grip at the end of the hose that you hold. The mouthtip is the small piece you put to your lips, often personal so guests can share one hose hygienically.

Are silicone shisha hoses washable?

Yes. Silicone hoses rinse clean under water, dry quickly and hold no moisture or odour, which is why they last longer and stay fresher than traditional hoses.

What is a wide bore hose?

A wide bore hose has a larger internal diameter, so air moves through with less resistance and gives you a fuller, easier pull.

Do I need personal mouthtips?

If you share your pipe with friends, personal mouthtips let everyone use the same hose hygienically. Choose disposable tips for guests or reusable tips for your own setup.

Common questions · Hoses & Handles

What's the difference between a silicone and a leather hose?
Cleaning and flavour memory. Silicone hoses are fully washable - hot water through them between sessions and they come out fresh. Leather-wrapped hoses are cosmetic on the outside but traditional cardboard or wire on the inside, which holds flavour residue, can rust, and never really cleans. Silicone is what most enthusiasts switch to once they've noticed old flavours ghosting into new sessions.
How often should I replace my hose?
Silicone hoses last years with regular cleaning - replace when the inside develops staining that won't rinse out, or if the silicone starts to crack near the handle. Leather-wrapped hoses need replacing much sooner - most people get 6–12 months before flavour ghosting becomes unbearable or rust shows through the wrap.
Will any hose fit my hookah?
Most will. The hose end connects to the hookah's hose port through a rubber grommet - that grommet flexes to accommodate different hose diameters. Issues mainly come up with very narrow modern pipes or bespoke stems, which may need a specific adapter. If the grommet's loose and you're getting air leaks, a smaller grommet fixes it.
What hose length should I get?
1.5 to 1.8 metres is standard - long enough to sit back comfortably, short enough not to tangle. Shorter hoses (under 1.2m) are for travel pipes or tight seating; longer (over 2m) are for lounges where people sprawl. Length affects the draw slightly - longer pulls feel a touch smoother, shorter feels more direct.
Disposable mouthtips or a personal one?
Disposable for sharing. Personal for solo sessions. Disposable plastic tips are essential when friends are sharing the same hose - each person gets a fresh one, no hygiene concerns. Personal reusable tips (resin, wood, stainless steel) are what regular enthusiasts carry to lounges or use at home - often on a lanyard, often a style statement as much as a hygiene one.
Does a nicer handle improve the session?
Not really - the handle is mostly aesthetic and ergonomic. Where it does matter: a loose handle-to-hose connection leaks air and ruins the draw, and a badly cast handle with rough interior metal can add off-flavours. Beyond fit and finish, a carbon-fibre handle pulls identically to an aluminium one. Pay for how it feels in your hand, not for what it does technically.
