AO® Laminator mesh coal guard — cylindrical ash shield that sits around your bowl to catch sparks and runaway coals

This is a wire-mesh “cage” that drops over your bowl and heat management device. If a coal slips or spits, it lands inside the guard instead of on your tray, floor or carpet. The open mesh contains ash while letting air flow, so you keep heat steady and the mess stays put. It’s a simple, drop-on safety layer for indoor sessions.

Fit & compatibility

Fits over most standard bowls with Lotus-style HMDs. Not recommended with chimney heat screens or HMDs that have tall handles or protrusions; these can contact the mesh. If you run a large handled HMD and still want to use a guard, consider a low-profile or handle-less manager.

How to dial it in

• Place your bowl and HMD as normal, then lower the mesh guard over the setup so it sits on the tray.
• Leave a small gap between the mesh and HMD lid for airflow; lift the guard briefly to access coals.
• For best stability, ensure your tray is flat and clear before placing the guard.

• Cylindrical metal mesh with rolled rim for strength and smoother edges.
• Open-base design for direct tray contact and quick removal.

Care & upkeep

• Let it cool before handling.
• Tap out loose ash over a bin; wipe with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
